Maternity and Pregnancy Rights

An employer cannot discriminate against a female employee on the grounds that she is pregnant, has pregnancy-related sickness, is on maternity leave, or has previously asserted her right to take maternity leave. As such, an employer cannot make someone redundant simply because she is pregnant, or for reasons related to her pregnancy.

As with other forms of discrimination, there is no necessary qualifying period required in order to be able to bring a claim – an employee is protected from their first day in the job.

We are able to offer advice on all issues pertaining to pregnancy and maternity leave, be it sickness, pay and conditions, flexible and part-time working requests and redundancies.
